A Performing Arts Project Connecting the UK and Local Communities

British Ballet Extravaganza was an international performing arts project that integrated ballet performances, educational workshops and talk sessions by inviting choreographer, ballet teacher and professional dancers from the UK.

The project aimed to create opportunities for learning and international exchange through performing arts within local communities.

英国と地域をつなぐ舞台芸術による総合プロジェクト

英国ダンサー来日特別企画では、英国より振付家・バレエ講師・プロのダンサーを招聘し、公演、ワークショップ、トークショーを一体的に展開した国際舞台芸術プロジェクトである。

舞台芸術を通して、地域における学びと国際交流の場を創出することを目的とした。

① Ballet Performances

　Ballet performances were presented in Oshamambe, Hokkaido, inviting a choreographer and professional dancers from London. This marked the first occasion in nearly 30 years that the theatre welcomed international guest artists.

　The performances brought together professional dancers and local ballet students ranging from secondary school students to adults, creating a collaborative work across generations. Prior to the performances, an open stage class for primary school children was held, followed by post-performance talk sessions that encouraged direct interaction between guest artists and the audience.

①バレエ公演

　ロンドンより振付家とプロのダンサーを招き、北海道長万部町学習文化センターにてバレエ公演を開催。同センター開館以来、約30年で初めて海外からゲストを迎えた舞台となった。

　作品にはプロのダンサーに加え、地元でバレエを学ぶ中学生から大人までが参加し、世代や経験を越えたコラボレーションを実現。公演前には小学生を対象とした舞台上での公開レッスンを行い、公演後にはゲストと観客が直接交流できるトークショーを開催した。

②Ballet Workshops

Ballet workshops were delivered at studios across Hokkaido (Sapporo, Imakane and Oshamambe), as well as in Tokyo and Kanagawa, welcoming approximately 200 participants aged between 3 and 75.

The programme included RAD-focused classes and pas de deux sessions, offering participants the opportunity to learn directly from a professional teacher and train alongside professional dancers. The workshops created an inclusive learning environment across countries, regions and generations.

②ワークショップ

北海道（札幌市、今金町、長万部町）および東京都・神奈川県のバレエスタジオにてワークショップを開催。3歳から75歳まで、約200名が参加した。

RADに特化したレッスンやパ・ド・ドゥクラスを含む多様な内容を展開し、プロの講師による指導のもと、プロのダンサーと共に学ぶ機会を提供。国や地域、年齢を越えた学びの場となった。

③Talk Sessions

Talk sessions were held following both performances in Oshamambe Town, as well as an additional cultural lecture event in Imakane Town. Hokkaido.

Guest artists spoke about their professional careers, how they began ballet, their experiences working in the UK, and their future aspirations.

During the Q&A sessions, discussions extended beyond ballet to a wide range of topics, including differences in food culture and everyday life between the UK and Japan.

These exchanges created a meaningful space for mutual learning, deepening cultural understanding and international exchange through performing arts.
